Tarmac Case Studies
With over 40 years of experience in Marlow and the surrounding counties, Four Seasons delivers tarmacing you can trust. From bespoke tarmac driveways to large-scale local authority projects, explore our case studies to see how we transform outdoor spaces with precision and professional care.
Tarmac Vehicular Access, Beaconsfield
This project involved the creation of a new tarmac vehicular access to the front of a residential property in Beaconsfield. The existing area was previously unsuitable for vehicle use and required full preparation prior to surfacing.
The works included ground excavation, installation of a suitable sub-base, and the laying of a new tarmac surface to provide a durable and level access point. Granite setts were retained along the perimeter to create a clean edge detail and integrate the new access with the surrounding driveway and pavement.
The finished surface provides a practical, hard-wearing solution that allows safe and convenient vehicle access while maintaining a neat appearance in keeping with the property and street setting.
Tarmac Drive Entrance, Bisham
This project involved the installation of a new tarmac drive entrance at a residential property in Bisham. The existing entrance required upgrading to improve vehicle access from the public highway and create a more durable surface.
The works included preparation of the existing ground, installation of a solid sub-base, and the laying of a new tarmac surface to form a smooth and hard-wearing entrance. Granite setts were used along the edges to provide a defined border and a clean transition between the tarmac, gravel driveway and surrounding areas.
The completed entrance offers improved access and durability while complementing the property’s timber gates and frontage.
New Tarmac Road, Frieth
This project involved the construction of a new tarmac access road in the village of Frieth. The objective was to provide a stable, long-lasting thoroughfare capable of withstanding regular vehicle traffic while maintaining the rural character of the area.
Our team carried out extensive ground preparation and installed a heavy-duty sub-base to ensure the longevity of the road. The final tarmac surface was precision-laid to provide a smooth, level finish with integrated drainage solutions to manage surface water runoff. The new road provides a reliable and clean access route that significantly improves the local infrastructure.
Tarmac Bin and Freezer Area, Henley
Four Seasons Marlow was contracted to create a dedicated, hard-standing utility area for bins and chest freezers at a property in Henley-on-Thames. The project required a level and durable surface that could be easily cleaned and maintained.
The works included the excavation of the designated area and the installation of a solid foundation to prevent sinking under the weight of the appliances. A high-quality tarmac surface was applied, finished with crisp edges to define the utility zone from the surrounding landscaping. The result is a practical, tidy, and fit-for-purpose area that improves the site’s external organisation.
Tarmac Driveway, Little Marlow
This project involved the installation of a premium tarmac driveway at the historic Little Marlow Manor. The brief was to replace an ageing surface with a durable finish that complemented the prestigious surroundings of the estate.
The works included careful preparation of the large surface area, ensuring correct gradients for water drainage. We laid a high-specification tarmac to provide a smooth, seamless finish. To enhance the aesthetic appeal, traditional stone kerbing was utilised to provide a sharp contrast against the dark tarmac, ensuring the new driveway sits sympathetically alongside the manor’s period architecture.
Tarmac Parking Bays, Slough
We were commissioned to install new tarmac parking bays for a commercial site in Slough to increase the available parking capacity. The project focused on creating a high-traffic surface that could withstand constant vehicle movement and turning.
After preparing the ground and reinforcing the sub-surface, we laid a wear-resistant tarmac topcoat. Professional line marking was then applied to clearly define the individual bays and ensure safe vehicle positioning. The completed project provides a clean, organised, and durable parking solution that maximises the available space for the client.
Tarmac Car Park, Wallingford
This project involved the full resurfacing of a car park in Wallingford. The existing surface had become worn and uneven, posing a potential trip hazard and looking unsightly for visitors.
The works involved planing off the old surface and addressing any underlying structural issues before laying a fresh, high-density tarmacadam finish. We ensured the installation of appropriate drainage channels to prevent pooling. The new car park offers a professional and safe environment for users, with a finish designed to last for many years under heavy daily use.
Tarmac Driveway, Wooburn Green
Four Seasons Marlow installed a new tarmac driveway for a residential property in Wooburn Green. The project aimed to transform a tired entrance into a modern, low-maintenance driveway with improved kerb appeal.
The process included the removal of the old driveway material and the installation of a new, compacted sub-base. A smooth tarmac surface was hand-laid to ensure a high-quality finish in all corners. We incorporated a decorative block-paved border to give the driveway a defined edge and a sophisticated look. The final result is a clean, durable entrance that has significantly enhanced the front of the property.

Helen MatthewsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Four Seasons did a fantastic job of our dropped kerb and resin driveway, completely transforming the front of our house. We chose to use them again to re-pave and turf our back garden and were equally impressed with the results second time round. We manage ongoing road maintenance and repairs/ resurfacing in a private road in Flackwell Heath and have been working closely with Jeff Kisbee and Four Seasons for the last 5 years. We have found Jeff to be completely reliable and together with his team, has consistently delivered high quality work to agreed timescales and budget. The work has included creating road drainage with installation of soak aways as well as major resurfacing including laying kerbstones. Highly recommended. Vanessa DickensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve used Four Seasons on two occasions for driveways on our current and previous properties, excellent service and extremely pleased with their workmanship. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company to anyone as they have an extensive range of abilities and materials! Thank you. John BushbyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had our drive taken up and relaid with resin bound gravel and the kerb outside was dropped to allow extra parking. Work done promptly and to a very high standard, with very helpful staff. There was a problem with a mixer - and its spare - breaking down on the hottest day of the summer meaning that there was a noticeable tidemark where the newer mix of the screed joined. We were afraid that there could be a problem but there wasn't - the whole area was relaid a few days later without any quibble or fuss and we're delighted with the end product. You can tell how good a contractor is by how they handle problems and Four Seasons passed that test with flying colours! Robert DalyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very positive experience, and a very competitive quote work was carried out quickly and efficiently to a good standard. Kate PeringTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Brilliant job on our new driveway. Four Seasons are reliable, reasonably priced and extremely attentive to detail. Daniel O'sullivanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Needed ground works and maintenance done. Quote was accurate and competitive and when invoice arrived it was to the original quote. No add ons. All works carried out on time and to the highest standard. All in all a brilliant job done. Thank you so much Lance HolmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Got Four seasons to even out a really nasty dip at the bottom of the drive that cars/vans kept wheelspinning and bottoming out on. Met with Jeff who immediately saw what the problem was and came up with a cost effective solution. He also met with all my neighbours (as the work required affecting access to a shared bit of roadway) and answered all their questions. He was able to book me in on the date I requested. On the day the guys, including Jeff himself, turned up really early and got cracking. Really friendly guys, Danny especially was great and even let my kids sit on the roller and digger (when they were switched off!!). They did a great job and it looks fantastic. Obviously only just been done so I can't speak to the longevity of the work but he was prepared to guarantee it for 3 years which is more than most groundwork companies. Would recommend. ps before photo doesn't really do justice to how bad the dip was!
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a new tarmac driveway last?
When installed with a professional-grade sub-base and correct drainage, a tarmac surface typically lasts between 15 and 20 years. To maximise this lifespan, we recommend a “dual-layer” application consisting of a dense base course followed by a high-quality wearing course. Regular maintenance, such as surface dressing every few years, can extend this even further by protecting the bitumen from oxidation and frost damage.
Can you lay new tarmac over an existing driveway?
Yes, this is known as resurfacing or an overlay. This is a highly cost-effective way to refresh your driveway, provided the original foundation is still structurally sound. If the existing surface has significant “alligator cracking” or sinking, it may indicate a sub-base failure. In these cases, we recommend a full dig-out to ensure your new surface doesn’t mirror the old cracks.
How soon can I drive on my new tarmac surface?
While tarmac sets relatively quickly, it remains “soft” until it has fully cooled and cured. We generally recommend keeping vehicles off a new driveway for at least 48 to 72 hours. During periods of particularly hot weather, it may take slightly longer for the bitumen to harden. We provide specific aftercare advice for every project to ensure the finish remains pristine.
